How to make working from home more effective

Thousands of people are going to be working home for the first time, due to the coronavirus outbreak, it is important that all the things are set in place to allow it to be a simple transition from everyday work life.

There are many things you can do to make remote working simple, including minor things like getting dressed and sticking to your morning routine, this will instantly improve your state of mind and psychologically prepare you for a day of work.

Ensure to stick to your usual daily routine, this is with starting and finishing work. By completing your normal hours of work makes your day much more structured.

Following the Government Guidelines, get out once a day for your hour of daily exercise, this could be anything from a walk around the block to a steady jog – this could help undo any mental blocks you may have, or even just pick you up after a stressful start to the day.

Make sure your workstation is set up and by this, we mean to make sure all of your emails are easily accessible, your WIFI connection is reliable and your desk is cleared from clutter.

Stay in contact with your colleagues, this is REALLY important, it is important to remain positive and engaged with the people you work with, even when you’re working from home.

Going back to the point above, keeping in contact with colleagues, this should remain as it does in the office – so be sure to use your CRM system as affectively as you usually would in the office.

A CRM (Customer Relationship Manager) is a system in which you log all of your communication with your clients, customers and prospects. Just because you’re working from home, doesn’t mean client contact will stop and you need to ensure this is logged on your CRM in order for other people in the workplace to be aware of which stage of communication the client is at. This way, the customer service from your company will be as high of a standard as it would when in the office, which is highly important right now.

It is important to know that using CRM when working from home vastly improves your workflow. This is because it is a central hub of your businesses data and projects, which can be easily accessed from anywhere, (that is if you have a cloud-based system, which you should).

Your CRM system should allow a third-party integration, which will allow you to link your system with any other software you use, like Outlook, Xero, Sage etc.
