How to encourage customer reviews (and actually get them)

13th April 2018

According to statistics, 90% of consumers are more likely to make a purchase from a company that has user reviews. Despite this, most people are still reluctant, or just can’t be bothered, to leave a review.

Reviews can be given and formatted in different ways, with websites like Facebook and Google leading the way. If you have an e-commerce website, reviews are definitely something you should be thinking about.

Here are some methods you can try, to encourage your customers to leave you a review after buying a product or receiving a service.

Make it easy

You need to make it as easy as possible for people to review your business. The use of form, for example, can put some people off, as they require a lot of information to be typed in.

A lengthy written testimonial would be ideal, but this is not always practical for everyone. Star ratings have grown in popularity, this is because they are easy to give and read. While a star rating isn’t as valuable as a written review, it’s better than nothing!

Ask the question

What’s that saying? “If you don’t ask, you don’t get”.

Whether it’s on your website, in an email, or on your social media, it’s always worth asking customers to review your product or service. 7 out of 10 people who are asked to leave reviews usually do.

Phrases like ‘How did we do?’, ‘Share your thoughts’ and ‘Leave Feedback’ usually work well.

Use incentives

Because reviews are valuable to your business, you can afford to reward customers who leave them – after all, it does take time and attention to do so.

You could offer a discount on a purchase, a competition entry or access to some exclusive content. This is obviously not a permanent solution; however, it is a great way to boost feedback if things are slow.

There is a fine line between rewards and bribes, it’s important to remember this.

We regularly send out emails to our customers, after they’ve received a new product or service, to not only make sure we have reached expectations and the client is happy, but to also grow our portfolio of work and testimonials.
