The National Measurement Office is an Executive Agency of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills. They were aware of the difficulty local authorities were having in maintaining their expertise in enforcing complex legislation such as weights and measures. This issue, plus the squeeze on training budgets, led the NMO to embark on a project that would ultimately provide free training material for Metrology specialists across the Trading Standards community.
The project entitled "Measurement Matters" has resulted in the production of six multi-media DVDs which will guide officers through a variety of metrological situations. Each module includes training videos with a self-assessment tool at the end so that users can gauge how well they have understood the subject. A further learning tool allows users to investigate the areas in more depth.
Module 1: NAWI Counter Machines
Module 2: NAWI Weighbridges
Module 3: Liquid Fuel Measuring Instruments
Module 4: Packer Inspection
Module 5: Supermarket Inspection
Module 6: Working Standards and Testing Equipment
"Now that the above National Measurement Office (NMO) project has been completed I would like to thank you for all the hard work your company, and Tom Wilde in particular, put in to make the project a success. The six Competency Modules have now been distributed to Trading Standards Departments throughout the country by the NMO and I am aware that feedback from users has been very positive. From my own point of view, I am very pleased with the way in which Go Media was able to create an excellent series of interactive training DVDs, bringing to life the original ideas which we discussed."
